Travelling to Amsterdam is a magical experience. It takes visitors back to another time period. I’m still blown away by how incredible the city is. Amsterdam Netherlands has so much to offer, from its canals and architecture to its history and culture.
If you’re planning a trip there soon, here are seven things you should do while visiting:
Amsterdam Central Station
Amsterdam Central Station is the main railway station of Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is located between the two legs of the high speed line, with trains to Schiphol Airport every 10 minutes during peak hours.
The station opened in 1889 as a terminus station, when it replaced Amsterdamsche Station (Amsterdam station). With its numerous connections to other public transportation modes such as metro and tramways, it became one of the busiest stations in Europe by 1929. The original building was replaced by a new North Station tunnel entrance built under the new North-South Line which opened on 22 July 2018.
Dam Square
Dam Square is the central square of Amsterdam. It’s the main public transport hub, surrounded by several important buildings such as the Royal Palace and National Monument, which commemorates those who died during World War II.
The Damrak (a street) leads from Dam Square down to a canal that runs through the city center. This street is lined with shops selling everything from designer clothes to souvenirs, so it’s a great place to shop if you’re looking for something specific or just want to browse!
Royal Palace Amsterdam
The Royal Palace Amsterdam is the official residence of the royal family of the Netherlands. It was built in 1648 and located on Dam Square in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The palace has been home to many different monarchs over its long history including William I, William II, Queen Wilhelmina and Queen Juliana who lived there for more than 40 years.
Walk the canals
One of the best things to do in Amsterdam is simply to walk. The city has many canals, which are beautiful to look at, as well as being very useful for transportation and commerce. If you’re looking for an activity that will give you an opportunity to explore this wonderful city, consider walking along one of these canals!
You can walk along the canals on foot; many tourists enjoy doing so because it gives them a chance to see some sights from a different perspective than what would be possible by riding in an automobile or bus (and also because it’s free). This option works best during warmer months when there isn’t snow on top of everything else–so wait until springtime before heading out if possible!
Beursplein Park
Beursplein Park is located in the center of Amsterdam. The park is a great place to relax, have a picnic, or enjoy a concert. It’s also home to several restaurants and cafes if you prefer not to bring your own food!
Schiphol Amsterdam Airport
Schiphol is the largest airport in the Netherlands and one of the world’s busiest airports, located 10km southwest of Amsterdam. It’s home to KLM, Air France-KLM and Transavia. The airport has four runways and three terminals: T1, T2 and T3 (with two satellites).
Conclusion
Amsterdam is a great city to visit, and it has so much to offer. I hope this list helps you plan your trip!
